Who’s looking for your website?

Posted in seo

Well you think you can answer that question?  Of course you can, and if you can’t then you need to give up.  The people looking for your website are those who are interested in what your website is about.  But they don’t know where it is, and they don’t know what it’s called.  You need to help them find you…

This is the basic principle of all website design and search engine optimisation, and yet so many people neglect to think about it when they build their website.  If you sell cups then your website needs to be about cups and preferably titled cups.com or something like that.   This is because people who are looking to buy cups on line will type “cups” into their search engine.  If you have a website called “Peter and Peter Homeware” or something like that, then this isn’t going to be as effective as cups.com or cupsforsale.com.  You need to think about your customer.

This also includes the keywords you use on your website.  If you sell cups, mention the word cups as often as it seems logical.  Don’t go on about homeware or dining sets or anything that gets away from what you are selling.  If you sell cups, write cups, that is the basic rule; don’t forget it.

People will find you easier when you have a website that tells them what they want to hear, and text that gets them to where they want to be.  Concentrate on the customer, not your presentation.
