The Importance of Keywords and Phrases in SEO
SEO depends upon what people type into the search engines. When you use a search engine the engine searches for the words or phrases you input. If you type in Picnic Hampers the search engine will look for
- Pages that contain the exact phrase picnic hampers
- Pages that don’t have the exact phrase but do have the words close together
- Pages that have the words reasonably close together
- Pages that have the word picnic and perhaps the word hampers somewhere else on the page.
- Pages that have a link with the words picnic hamper in them.
- Pages that have a link with the words but not together
This is a very generic rule but it will outline a few important steps to take when you concentrate on SEO on your individual web site pages. If you want to market your product successfully and use the internet search engines as a primary advertising tool then you serioulsy need to consider optimising your keywords and their position on the screen.
The list above isn’t the order in which the search engines will look for through your keywords and phrases however, it’s just a guideline to tell you what they look for. They prioritse words that are: bold, italicized, bulleted, and headings. They will also concentrate on text that’s a little larger than the rest. For example when i write SEO in bold the search engine will see that first and rank it as more important than the rest when it tries to match the word to the search term used on the engine.
