Keywords and Meta Tags
If you are reading this then you probably already know a little about meta tags and what they are for, so i am going to assume a little knowledge on the part of reader. If you don’t then you can Google it!…
The meta tags were originally used as an indexing tool to basically tell the search engine what your website/page was about by using keywords and phrases. They aren’t used as much these days but some engines still use them frequently, so whilst other webmasters have stopped using them, you can gain a distinct advantage by still trying them out. Here are a few tips to use when considering your meta tags
- Don’t fill your meta tags with loads of words. You used to be able to get away with this, but these days around ten is plenty, so choose them wisely.
- Seperate the keywords with a comma and a space.
- Make sure the keywords in the meta tags are in the actual content on the page. This is a common enough mistake to make.
- Don’t use too much repetition. If your keywords are in their try not to repeat them too much in different phrases.
So try some of these things out and you might find out that these things too can lift you that little but higher in the rankings.
